So i actually dont think it is new year yet over there, but we had a blast last night! After walking around downtown and checking out the INSANE amount of shopping to be done (to my credit i only bought a pair of sunglasses, i dont want to carry all the stuff i want for six weeks!) we made some English friends at our hostel and went out for the celebrations as a big group of about 10. It was so fun to have a crew to run around with and the street was fucking crazy packed. there were stages and zillions of people and madness in general. today we are hungover and heading for a boat ride down the river and then taking our train at 6pm to Chian Mai--which I am so excited about!. I had my frist taste of thai massage yesterday as well when we got a 1/2 hour foot massage for $4. It felt amazing after walking all day and i am defintely sold on the whole thing. much more of that to come! love to all and adios to 2008! Sara
Happy New Years from this Sarah as well!! Last night was fun, but Bangkok is definitely the most overwhelming place I've ever been for New Years. It was NUTS! Bangkok is a cool city but not easy to navigate around! We took out first ride in a Tuk-Tuk yesterday, which was pretty crazy - Sara says that she wants to bring one to Burning Man. The drivers here are also the craziest drivers I've ever seen - it's like there are no traffik laws or something. Well that's all for now, hopefully we'll be able to put some pictures up in the next day or so at an internet cafe. We haven't had time to check that out. Tata for now! Sarah

Day 1!! or something
hello to all who may be interested in our travels!! I was at first a bit peeved to think that i wouldnt be completely dropping off the face of the planet for a few weeks, but since then i have gotten excited about the idea of keeping an ongoing record of our trip. that way i dont have to send out mass emails and pretend that they were for someone specific (oops, now you know my technique). so the travel to get here was LONG, no doubt, but there were no big problems and we have settled into our first hostel--Asha guesthouse--and its quite nice. the beds are HARD and its no where near koh san road, which we thought it was, but taxis are cheap and the food here has been great so far. Thailand breakfast needs a little work though. we sat next to a sarah on the plane and met a sara at the guesthouse last night. so far, every girl i have talked to has been named sara. funny that. its freakin humid here and the streets kindof remind me of mexico in that developing country way, but everyone is driving really nice cars and there are a zillion pink cabs everywhere. last night we played cards with some englishmen and watched them get 'pissed' from buckets. we were too tired for any buckets ourselves and went to bed to sleep off our jet lag. saving ourselves for tonights new years madness, im sure. today we are going to go walk around koh san and get a train ticket to chiang mai for tomorrow. and i guess thats the update so far! everyone have a great new year celebration!!! love love and more soon, Sara
