Crew we spent New Years with in Bangkok. We now have some pictures - so we can tell people about our blog. Yesterday we took a ferry down the river and stopped at the flower market and China Town. When we got the flower market we were really dissapointed because it was just smelly allyways and we assumed that nobody was selling their flower since it was New Years day. We were just about to turn around and give up when we decided to do one more corner and suddenly there were rows and rows of fruits and flowers. What they do with all those flowers is beyond us, but there you have it. It was very colorful and beautiful. Then there was China Town. We had heard that China Town was a "not to be missed" sort of thing - but all we saw was block after block of plastic junk - it was really weird. And with all this plastic junk there were hords of people sizing up Hello Kitty stuffed animals and buying plastic jewelry. But we did have some yummy soup. We are in Chiang Mai now and we both like it far better than Bangkok because Bangkok was just plain overwhelming. Chiang Mai is more tropical and a lot smaller than we had expected. Today we got a massage from the Women's Prison by inmates and it was a bit bizzar. Not very relaxing. Oh well. Oh but we found a really good restaurant!
Sarah is obsessed with Yellow Curry and Sara is pretty hooked on the Pad Thai so far - we figure we've got time to branch out. The guest house we're in here reminds us of humboldt cause they're constantly playing Bob Marley and it's got a hippie atmostphere. Tonight we'll check out the night bizzar.

The cat is for Tito.

The foot massage was far better than the "traditional thai massage" but we'll give it another try

  2. Dear Sara(h)s, (this is Dad talking) you have not said anything about mosquitoes. What's up, Buttercup? Don't they have mosquitoes in this jungle? In the photo of the massage, are the two people massaging you prisoners? If so, what are they in prison for? What did you go out shopping for the other night? Did you find a Lonely Planet book on Laos? I'm getting ready to go into a 3 week trial. Wish me luck. Love you, Dad
Hi (this is me, Mom), We saw the Clint Eastwood movie last night about the old codger who is at first unwillingly befriended by Hmong neighbors. Great movie! Of course, we thought of your trek up to visit the hill people. Love reading your blog (almost my first experience with this new technology) and certainly my first writing on it! Miss you but am enjoying the vicarious experience of travel when you're young and every turn is an adventure! You will remember this your whole life.
Love you both, Carol and Les
